Large-cap equity and emerging markets are getting the most U.S. exchange-traded fund assets, followed by fixed income, according to BlackRock, which manages the iShares family of ETFs.

As of the first quarter, large-cap ETFs totaled more than $172 billion in assets in the U.S., or 18.1% of the total pie. Emerging markets claimed the second spot, with nearly $150 billion in assets, or 15.4%.

The broad fixed income category had the third-highest asset total at $134 billion, or 14.1%.

The only other categories with at least double-digit market share were international equity and sector-specific equity, at 13.1% and 11.3% of ETF assets, respectively.

Surprisingly, commodity-related funds held only 1.7% of U.S. ETF assets.

The categories with the fewest ETF assets were active and currency funds, both at 0.2%. Inverse funds (0.4%) was the only other category that failed to garner at least 1% of total U.S. assets.
