One of the biggest challenges facing investors today is the uncertainty regarding whether a traditional portfolio of stocks, bonds and cash can deliver the returns that investors have come to expect and need to met their growth goals. Many people in the industry believe it is simply a matter of adding a few alternative investments to the portfolio and the shortfall risk will disappear. We believe that success in the next decade will require a much more profound change in investment strategy and that “alternative thinking,” not simply alternative investments, will be necessary to meet investors’ objectives.
