A New Climate
In case you haven’t heard, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who quickly has become a leading contender for the Republican nomination for president, is making climate change a campaign issue, saying scientists have manipulated data to support “unproven” theories that humans are contributing to global warming.

Last week in New Hampshire, Perry made climate change a key element of every speech, according to The Washington Post. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), also seeking the nomination, is very skeptical about climate change.

Candidate Mitt Romney, on the other hand, was criticized by conservatives when he said in June that he accepts the scientific view that the planet is getting warmer, the Post says. Utah Governor Jim Huntsman also says he trusts scientists on global warming.

Generating jobs is likely to be the biggest issue in the Republican primary as well as the presidential race, but climate change could end up being an issue on which candidates take a clear-cut stance that's easy to differentiate and might have some impact on voters trying to make a decision. If the candidate who ultimately becomes president doesn't believe humans contribute to global warming, government policy support for efforts to slow climate change will disappear. While some would cheer that development, many sustainable investors will surely be disappointed.

Global climate is changing as it has done so in the past. This is proven science. CO2 when released in the atmosphere increases the "greenhouse" effect although not nearly as much as do other emmissions such as methane. These are proven to the extent that there is any "scientific" reality.
The causal relationship between the release of CO2 and global climate change remains unclear although the weight of evidence points to a high degree of correlation of some enhancement. It may not be "causing" the warming of the earth but it sure ain't helping.
Science may or may not direct policy, but when policy directs science than knowledge is reduced to merchandise.

Not only is Mr. Stanley correct, the news is getting better and moving away from AGW. The most recent scientific data is very positive for mankind and is being ignored by this publication and most media outlets. First, satellite readings show much more heat is escaping our atmosphere than U.N. climate models anticipated. And second, experiments at CERN recreating the development of low level clouds support the idea that solar activity and cloud formation are the dominant drivers of global temperatures, not co2. Who knew?

Mr. Perry hasn't drank the human-caused global climate-change cool-aid. Good for him. Anyone who cares to look will find that the idea that the science on this subject is settled will find it isn't. It is foolish to commit the country and even the world to attempting to "fix" something that may not even be broken. According to several sources I have read it is clear that we don't have credible evidence of human caused global warming. I do not want my government making commitments and making expenditures to try to fix this "problem" before we know we have a problem. The environmental agenda of regulation and redistribution is costing our economy dearly. We need to stop it.
