A Charles Schwab Corp. executive who once headed the company's merger and acquisition efforts has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Schwab Institutional.

Charles G. Goldman, who takes on the roles effective April 15, will run Schwab Institutional's day-to-day business operations and take a role in developing and implementing new growth strategies, according to Schwab.
He will report to Schwab Institutional President Deborah McWhinney.

"Charles brings great passion and respect for what independent advisors do as well as strong strategic and operational experience to our business," McWhinney says. "Having Charles on our team will enable me to focus on strategic opportunities and to spend more time talking with our clients about what we can do to help them grow their businesses."

Among the strategic initiatives Goldman has led for Schwab are the company's Cost Leadership Initiative and merger and acquisition efforts, according to the company.

Before joining Schwab in 2001, he was president and chief operating officer of a packaged food company and specialized in strategic development, operational improvement and organizational design at The Boston Consulting Group.
