The Financial Planning Association today named Richard Salmen as president-elect for 2008. Salmen, senior vice president/senior advisor with GTrust Financial Partners in Overland Park, Kan., has held various volunteer leadership positions within FPA, including president of FPA of Greater Kansas City, chair of FPA's Leadership Conference, member of the Chapter Leadership Resource Council, and chair of the Membership Advisory Group.

Prior to GTrust Financial Partners, Salmen worked at Waddell & Reed, Financial Planning Concepts and Legacy Trust Company. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and was a graduate business scholar while receiving a master of business administration in finance from the University of Kansas. In addition to his involvement with FPA, Salmen is a certified toastmaster with Toastmasters International, a public speaking organization, serves on the advisory board for the Kansas State University financial planning degree program, and on the Kansas/Nebraska Schools of Banking Education board of directors.

In other FPA news, the organization announced that six new members were elected to its board of directors for three-year terms beginning January 1. They are:

Deena Katz, associate professor at Texas Tech University and principal of Evensky & Katz Wealth Management, in Coral Gables, Fla.

Karin Maloney Stifler, founder of True Wealth Advisors, LLC, in Hudson, Ohio.

Ken Ziesenheim, president of Thornburg Securities Corporation and a managing director of Thornburg Investment Management in Santa Fe, N.M.
