An Article On Target

I just read "Cornering The Market" (August 2002) with great interest. It is well written and right on target. As an RIA who has felt the strong-arm tactics of Advent since 1993, my firm now must make a decision regarding the portfolio software we use.

A Bad Idea

I just had to give you an ear full after reading your article ("Cornering The Market," August 2002).

CheckFree‚s Security APL has a reputation for being the required platform for wrap managers, when in reality APL does not only do wrap but institutional and private client better than any one else out there.

Of course this is only an opinion, but let me tell you, I used APL for a year before coming to a firm where we use Advent. What one person can do on APL takes three on Advent.

Advent has acquired too much crap and lost sight of the simplicity of consolidating all areas of management into one platform. Advent‚s recent release of "My Advent" was their attempt to do just this. It‚s a way to link all the segregated areas of Advent.

Bad idea. What they should have done was start from the ground up, and build a platform that will forever incorporate all areas of management into one. That‚s APL, and it‚s a beautiful thing. There is nothing better in business than to have everything working together efficiently. When your systems are all not working together at the same time, you have communication breakdown, time lost, inefficiency. As you can see, I‚m a big fan of things that really work and am actually right in the middle of convincing our firm‚s partners to make the transition out of Advent into APL. Gotta give credit where it‚s due. Thanks.
