The CFP Board of Standards Inc. has appointed chairs to the ethics commission and three councils for 2014.

Matthew Murphy is the new chair of the Disciplinary and Ethics Commission, which is responsible for interpreting and applying the code of ethics and professional responsibility, rules of conduct and financial planning practice standards when violations of rules are charged and for imposing discipline when appropriate.

Murphy is the founder and president of Murphy Capital Advisors, an independent financial planning and investment advisory firm headquartered in Goodyear, Ariz. He has been a member of the commission since 2010.

John Grable is the new chair for the Council on Education, which advises CFP Board staff on the development and clarification of educational policies related to the CFP certification process. The council provides input on policies that relate to education requirements, CFP Board-registered programs and continuing education.

Grable is a professor at the University of Georgia, where he holds an Athletic Association Endowed Professorship. In this role, he teaches and conducts research at the graduate and undergraduate level. Grable was the founding editor for the Journal of Personal Finance and he is currently the co-editor of the Journal of Financial Therapy.

Trisha Arndt is the new chair for the Council on Examinations, an advisory group of stakeholders responsible for the CFP Examination.

Arndt is the founding advisor of Wealth Strategies, an independent financial services, wealth management and consulting firm in Verona, Wis. She has volunteered with the Council on Examinations since 2011.

Roger Begin is starting a second term as chair of the Public Policy Council, which serves an advisory role on public policy issues affecting CFP Board, CFP professionals and members of the public. He is sales director for BNY Mellon’s Wealth Management group for the Rhode Island region.
