The CFP Board of Standards, Inc. is changing to a computer-based testing platform for its CFP certification examination, which will provide faster access to test results, the board announced Thursday.

The change will be effective with the November 2014 exam. The final paper-based exams will be administered in March and July.

Exam takers will have immediate access to unofficial results of their exam. Official results will be available within one to two weeks instead of the current five weeks. The new test will be administered in one day with six hours of testing instead of 10 hours over two days as is done now.

More testing days and testing sites will be available with the computer based tests.

Prometric, a leading provider in testing services, is serving as the CFP Board’s partner in administering the examination.
