The CFP Board announced that it elected its future leadership on Tuesday.

Richard Salmen, CEO of Bloonmfield, Mich.-based Northern Financial Advisors, has been elected as the CFP Board’s chair-elect.

Current chair-elect Blaine Aikin will serve as chair of the Board of Directors in 2017, and Salmen will follow him as chair in 2018.

Salmen, a past president of the Financial Planning Association, has served on the CFP Board of Directors since 2015 and on the development committee for the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning.

“The CFP certification represents the highest standard in ethical and competent financial planning and more Americans need access to this valuable service,” said Salmen in a statement on Tuesday. “I look forward to working with my board colleagues, CFP Board staff and our CFP professional community to help develop the next generation of CFP professionals who will help secure American’s financial future.”

Salmen has been a CFP professional since 2000. Before becoming CEO of Northern Financial Advisors, Salmen oversaw the financial planning practice at BOK Financial. He also served in the Army and the Army Reserve, mustering out as a captain.
