Concerned strivers are likely to seek or to receive professional advice and to have confidence in their abilities to invest and to retire, despite their difficulties in saving, while tentative savers are more likely to save, but are less likely to feel confident in their ability to retire and are unlikely to have sought professional advice.

For the survey series, the CFP Board explored the savings habits of 1,000 Americans over 25 years old from May 13 to 16, 2016. Future CFP Board reports will describe in detail the remaining three groups: stretched worriers, confident savers and tentative savers.
