Women are still paid less than men in most jobs, and the financial services and insurance industry is no exception, according to PayScale, a web-based jobs and salaries resource.

In every industry PayScale considered, women still receive less compensation than their male colleagues. In a general comparison of all working women and men, women still make about 78 cents for each dollar earned by men. That is true in large part because men hold higher-paying jobs. In fact, the financial services and insurance industry had the biggest gap between the pay of men and women.

But even if the data is broken down to compare women and men holding the same job with the same experience and education, women still are paid less than men, says PayScale.

PayScale weighted the data gathered from 1.4 million workers’ profiles to control for the different factors, so that the results show an “apples to apples” comparison, the research firm says. Using the control factors, the data shows women make 2.7 percent less than men with some industries having a bigger pay gap than others.

Following are the 10 industries ranked, in reverse order, by gender pay-gap percentage when control factors are considered. The second percentage is the pay gap when all jobs in the industry are compared without control factors. The full report is available here.
