Post-trade information for asset backed securities including the time of trades, price and volume is being made available free to the public for the first time by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

The data being added to Finra’s TRACE (Trade Reporting and Compliance Engine) will cover securities backed by auto loans, credit card receivables and student loans.

The data will be posted on TRACE no later than 45 minutes after a trade is executed until December 15 when the time shrinks to 15 minutes.

The asset-backed securities on which Finra is making data available are considered private placements and can only be purchased by an institutional investor.

"The dissemination of transaction information in asset-backed securities is another milestone in making the debt markets more transparent, ensuring the integrity of markets and investor protection," said Finra Vice President Ola Persson. "Like with other products, we have adjusted the dissemination protocol to reflect the characteristics of these securities, and we will continue on this path with other more complex products in the near future."
