Fees for securities licensing exams are going up next month.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority is boosting exam fees from five dollars to $15 per test. The changes will apply to 30 different exams.

The cost for the popular Series 7 exam (general securities representative) will rise from $290 to $305.

The general securities principal exam, the Series 24, will go up five dollars to $120.

In its rule filing, Finra said costs to develop and administer the exams have risen since the last fee increase three years ago.

With the rate hikes, Finra estimates that the industry will pay nearly $1 million more in exam fees this year and $1.25 million more in 2016.

Finra administered more than 130,000 exams last year.

The SEC published a notice of the fee increases Tuesday. The rate hikes are set to take effect April 1, but commentators can file objections urging the SEC to disapprove the increases.
