Outstanding registered investment advisors and record-keepers will be honored by Fidelity Investments through its new Be Greater Awards, Fidelity announced Thursday.

The awards are an outgrowth of the book Be Greater: Why Being Good Enough is No Longer an Option, published by Fidelity last year. Most RIAs are taking steps to improve their businesses, but the awards will honor those who stand out, Fidelity says.

Fidelity Clearing and Custody, the division of Fidelity that provides services for RIAs, retirement record-keepers, broker-dealer firms, banks and insurance companies, is sponsoring the awards, which will recognize RIAs and retirement record-keepers.

Firms are invited to nominate themselves from May 4 to May 29. The nominations will be judged by Karen Barr of the Investment Advisor Association; Joel Bruckenstein with Technology Tools for Today; Mindy Diamond of recruiting firm Diamond Consultants; Beverly Flaxington of advisor consulting firm the Collaborative; Brian Hamburger of advisor consulting firm MarketCounsel; and Philip Palaveev of advisor consulting firm the Ensemble Group.

Three RIAs will be selected as winners, one with $50 million to $250 million in AUM, one with $250 million to $1 billion in AUM and one with more than $1 billion in AUM. One retirement record-keeper will be chosen.

Firms will be judged on the demonstrated excellence in their business models, planning, technology and client engagement, among other things.

Firms must be a custody client of Fidelity Clearing and Custody, must have been in business for at least four years, must have more than two full-time employees and must not be under investigation by any regulatory or government agency or enforcement division. Eligible firms can submit nominations through the Be Greater Awards website at https://fiws.fidelity.com/app/item/RD_13569_43511.html?sapl=go&camp=BGA.

The winners will be announced in September and will be presented with the award at Fidelity’s Inside Track event in October. Fidelity will make a $15,000 donation to the charity of each winner’s choice. Additional information can be found at fiws.fidelity.com.
