First Allied Securities has appointed Marissa Fox-Foley as senior managing director of marketing for the independent broker-dealer. In the position, Fox-Foley will oversee all marketing, digital media, corporate communications and brand strategy functions.

Recently, Fox-Foley had spent four years as executive vice president of advisor marketing at LPL Financial. In that role, she devoted much of her time working on the development of marketing strategies for individual LPL advisors and building out the giant broker-dealer’s social media platform. That LPL unit was awarded the 2012 Digital Marketer Of The Year by Bloomberg/Brand New Media.

At First Allied, her role will expand to include all corporate and advisor marketing as well as the firm’s conferences. She said the firm is working on the enhanced development of its social media platform, which will be rolled out in 2014.

Fox-Foley will report directly to First Allied Wealth Management President Robert Holcomb. In a statement, he noted her experience in helping individual advisors market their businesses. Significant marketing experience is something many advisors don't possess.

“Marissa brings the best of both worlds to our company: a focus on personalized service for each advisory practice, combined with a big-picture view on how to most effectively build and align marketing strategy at the corporate level,” Holcomb said. ”The continued expansion of our firm and the advisor businesses we support underpins our ‘First in Growth’ message to the marketplace.”

Last fall, San Diego-based First Allied acquired Legend Group from Waddell & Reed. It now serves as broker-dealer for 1,250 reps.
