The Invest In Others Charitable Foundation has given awards to five financial advisors for their efforts to improve their communities.
The foundation recognizes the philanthropic and volunteer efforts of financial advisors in their local communities. Four winners received $20,000 for their charities, and the lifetime achievement award winner received $25,000.
The 2014 winners are:
Alexandra Armstrong is the Lifetime Achievement Award winner. She is a principal at Armstrong, Fleming & Moore in Washington, D.C. Armstrong was recognized for her work with the Foundation for Financial Planning. Since 1996, she has helped raise more than $10 million for the foundation, which supports pro bono planning for the underserved.
Tyson Jon Ray is the winner of the Global Community Impact Award. Ray is the founding partner of FORM Wealth Management Group in Lake Geneva, Wis. He has been recognized for launching Children’s World Impact. The nonprofit charity focuses on care and community development for widows and orphans.
Lynn Phillips-Gaines has won the Volunteer of the Year Award. Phillips-Gaines is a principal of Phillips Financial in Starkville, Miss. She has been recognized for founding Starkville Bridges Out of Poverty. The program educates individuals living in poverty about finances, community resources, predatory lending and the causes of poverty. The program then pairs these individuals with middle class “allies” who guide and support them for two years.
Michael J. Skrynecki, a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley in Atlanta, is the winner of the Catalyst Award. He is the founder and chairman of the Wiskott-Aldrich Foundation. The foundation supports the families of children with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, a rare disease that affects male children.
Patrick McClain won the Community Service Award. McClain is the chief executive of Hanson McClain Advisors in Sacramento, Calif. He served as a board member for the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services for 15 years and has been chairman for the past five. As chairman, he has overseen a multi-million-dollar fund-raising campaign and the construction of an education and technology center.
