IFS Securities announced today that former New York Governor David Paterson has joined the firm as chief strategist of U.S. affairs and chair of the firm’s advisory board.

Paterson became the first African-American governor of the state of New York in 2008 when he succeeded Eliot Spitzer, who resigned amid a sex scandle.

Paterson’s political career has spanned several decades. He was elected to represent Harlem in the New York State Senate in 1985, becoming the youngest senator in Albany at the time. He became the first visually impaired person to address the Democratic National Convention in 2004, and he became New York's first African-American lieutenant governor in 2007.

Paterson will introduce IFS Securities to public companies, municipalities, pension funds and businesses across the nation, according to IFS.
