Former Senator Ben Nelson Named CEO of  NAIC

Former Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) has been appointed as chief executive officer of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

The appointment at the nation's largest insurance regulator was received  with praise by trade organizations representing the insurance industry, including the Insured Retirement Institute, which represents the variable annuity business. “Senator Nelson has decades of experience and leadership working on insurance issues, and he possesses a deep understanding of the policy challenges we face regarding retirement security in America,IRI President and CEO Cathy Weatherford said in a statement.

The IRI is a not-for-profit organization supporting the insured retirement industry.
