Catalina Franco-Cicero, the director of Financial Wellness for the Fiscal Fitness Clubs of America in Miramar, Fla., has been awarded the Financial Planning Association Diversity Scholarship, FPA announced Tuesday.

Franco-Cicero will receive conference registration and travel expenses to the FPA Retreat 2016 in Phoenix, Ariz., April 25-28, and one year of FPA membership and chapter expenses. Fiscal Fitness Clubs provide peer support for members to achieve fiscal wellness.

The Diversity Scholarship recognizes a financial professional who is working to encourage diversity in the financial planning profession and in the population that it serves. Originally from Colombia, Franco-Cicero ran a successful fitness and wellness business before switching to financial planning. She said she wants to help make financial planning more accessible to people of diverse backgrounds.

“FPA is proud of members like Catalina who are committed to expanding the reach of financial planning into diverse communities,” said FPA President Pamela Sandy. “Her desire to break down barriers in the profession to make financial planning more accessible to those who want to make it their vocation while helping the public who otherwise would not have access to necessary financial guidance is commendable.”
