Bhumi Shah, who works as a portfolio manager and financial planning intern at Meyer Capital Group in Marlton, N.J., has been named the Financial Planning Association’s diversity scholarship recipient for its 2015 retreat.

The scholarship recognizes a financial services professional who is working to encourage diversity in the industry and the clients served.

Shah worked at a bank and trading firm in Mumbai, India, prior to joining the Meyer Capital Group. She is committed to providing customized financial planning advice to minorities, especially minority women, according to the announcement. Shah is also enrolled in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program run by the IRS, which provides free tax help and counseling to lower income people.

In addition to complimentary conference registration and travel expenses to the retreat being held in Atlanta from April 20-23, Shah also is awarded a free one-year FPA membership.

“FPA proudly recognizes financial planners who work to advance the profession while serving the needs of diverse communities,” said Lauren M. Schadle, CAE, FPA executive director and CEO. “Ms. Shah is a wonderful example of the work being done across the country by the financial planning community, and we look forward to honoring her in Atlanta at FPA Retreat 2015.”
