The Financial Planning Association is hosting a six-day residency educational program for new advisors designed to help them develop a solid foundation for their careers, FPA announced Wednesday.

FPA Residency 2015 will feature financial industry thought leaders, all of them CFP professionals, in a case-study format. It will be held Oct. 2 through Oct. 7 at the Inverness Hotel and Conference Center in Denver and registration is currently open at www.onefpa.org/professional-education/residency/Pages/default.aspx.

The participants will be exposed to real financial planning scenarios that are designed to teach new planners how to successfully handle different cases.

Kyra Morris, founder of Morris Financial Concepts Inc. in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., will serve as FPA Residency Dean. In 1985, Morris was one of the founders of the South Carolina Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and has served on the national board of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc.

Five others will serve as mentors to lead the case studies and work directly with residents to hone the softer skills that all competent financial planners need, FPA says.

The mentors are Sandra Bragar of Aspiriant in San Francisco; Elissa Buie of Yeske Buie in Vienna, Va.; Jonathan Guyton of Cornerstone Wealth Advisors Inc. in Edina, Minn.; Nicholas Nicolette of Sterling Financial Group in Sparta, N.J., and Dr. David Yeske of Yeske Buie in San Francisco, Calif.

Attendees will earn 28 continuing education credits or three-months of experience toward the CFP Board’s three-year experience requirement. Those interested in attending must have either completed the required CFP Board-registered program and be eligible to sit for the CFP certification examination, be a new CFP professional or a candidate for CFP certification, or be a CFP professional who has held the certification for three years or less.
