Double dipping on federal disability programs is proving very rewarding for a few.

Nearly 2,300 individuals who received a combination of Department of Defense, Veterans’ Affairs and Social Security disability payments reaped over $100,000, according to a General Accountability Office study released Thursday.

At the top of the list was someone who took in $208,757.

Those taking in over $100,000 accounted for 4 percent of the people taking in combined benefits.

While not making recommendations for changes, the study from the investigative arm of Congress noted the Social Security Disability Insurance Trust Fund is on track to run out of money in 2016.

Under federal law, it is legal for individuals to receive combined disability payments from the three agencies.
