The Municipal Securities Rule Making Board said Monday it will be making gauging the fair price for infrequently traded municipal securities easier next week with a new Web tool allowing investors to compare prices of similar bonds.

By entering the unique nine-digit identifier of any security, users can quickly find others that share many of its key characteristics, including maturity date, interest rate and other features.

A link to the tool is to be posted on the agency’s Electronic Municipal Market home page, www.emma.msrb.org. The exact date of the launch has yet to be determined.

The enhancements to EMMA will also allow investors to view side-by-side comparisons of prices and yields for five comparable municipal bonds and to see a graph of their trading trends.
