Cherrington says she tried to resolve the issues but failed, and that she eventually filed a complaint through the Morgan Stanley CareBox program designed to handle employee grievances, but got no response.

“There was nothing but bad blood there from the beginning,” she says. “It made absolutely no sense” because they were hurting their own business.

Gossip was circulated that Cherrington is gay and other advisors did not want to work with her, her attorney says. This was done despite the fact that she and her partner live an openly gay lifestyle.

Cherrington scheduled 36 seminars for the public that stressed holistic financial planning before asset management is undertaken, but only about half of those seminars were held because they were sabotaged by Morgan Stanley. Many of the canceled seminars had been paid for by Cherrington, the complaint says.

The complaint is not about money but rather about her treatment, says Campbell, noting that the rumors about her poaching clients are untrue. “It all stems from the same malicious intent. It is a stupid thing for Morgan Stanley to allow to happen,” he says.

Cherrington left Morgan Stanley in February to join FSC Securities Corporation as Cherrington Brotsky Conscious Capital.
