Genworth Unit Names President

Genworth Financial Wealth Management today appointed Daniel Courtney to the newly created position of president where he will oversee the redevelopment and expansion of the firm’s portfolio management strategy.

Courtney fills the newly created president’s position for the asset management unit. As a member of the Genworth Wealth Management Senior Leadership Team, Courtney will focus on managing and executing the business plan and the unit’s growth strategy, including product development and target markets, for the $6 billion business.

“It will give us the opportunity to refine our strategy, frankly, in terms of the advisors that we are serving, products that we’re managing and developing and the markets that could benefit from some very thoughtful, customized, risked-oriented portfolio management in the context that GFAM provides,” says Mike Abelson, senior vice president, investments and product development for GFWM, to whom Courtney will report.

Courtney says he took the position because of what he called GFAM’s unique management structure.”GFAM has a boutique culture; it’s a boutique investment management firm and I’ve made a career out of going in and helping boutique firms expand distribution, expand their product development and their product suite,” he says. “That really appealed to me about this firm.”

Courtney will also lead efforts to support training and education of financial advisors about the benefits and characteristics of the investment solutions offered by GFAM on the Genworth Wealth Management platform. Courtney will also work closely with GFAM’s chief investment officer Tim Knepp.

Courtney brings more than 15 years of sales and marketing leadership experience in investment management and intermediary firms to his new position. For the past seven years, he held senior executive roles at Resource America in Philadelphia, where he drove sales of specialized products and oversaw product development, sales, service, business development and marketing.
