“Lattice will give us the plumbing, so to speak, to be able to think about those products more realistically than before because there’s a lot of infrastructure needed before one can get serious about this space,” Frost says.

Meanwhile, Hartford Funds probably won’t go on a shopping trip for other ETF companies anytime soon.

“I doubt we’ll make another acquisition in the ETF space,” Frost says. “I think we have what we need with Lattice’s smart-beta capability and the ability to think about an actively managed suite.”
