Rep. Kevin Brady, chair and the chief architect of Social Security policy on the House, Ways and Means Committee, said Tuesday changes to the program are not coming soon.

“Social Security is not the focus of Congress today,” said the House power.

However, Brady, a Republican, added Congress will have to act in the years ahead to save the retirement program for future generations.

He said he welcomes ideas from everyone, but he refused to say if he favors complete or partial privatization for Social Security.

The Texas Republican Representative’s comments came immediately after a talk on his plans for Ways and Means in the year ahead before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Brady told the business group he is looking at ways to make saving for retirement and education simpler.

“We are not a nation of savers and we need to be,” said the Congressman.

One of his aims for the Internal Revenue Service is to create a section for families with a unit to handle small dispute claims.

Brady did not estimate when the details of his tax package will be made public.

“Tax reform will be tough to get done,” said the Ways and Means chair.
