“Retirement is about trade-offs,” Blanchett says. This research indicates retirees may want to plan to spend more in the beginning. For the research for this article, he concludes, “It might make sense for retirees to plan to spend more in the early years of retirement. You’ve worked 40 years to save for retirement; don’t forego the things you can enjoy.”
