ING U.S. announced it will begin using its new Voya Financial name in April. In May, the Investment Management and Employee Benefits businesses will begin using the new name, followed by all other ING U.S. businesses using the Voya Financial brand in September.

The retirement and insurance products provider announced the name change a year ago as part of its move to become an independent company.

The company said it chose to stagger the rebranding to provide an orderly transition for its 13 million individual and institutional customers. Also, as it rebrands, nothing will change with respect to customer accounts or policies, or the manner in which clients and financial professionals work with the company, according to the firm.

“Voya is an abstract name coined from the word ‘voyage.’  It reflects momentum and optimism, and a view towards the future,” said Ann Glover, chief marketing officer of ING U.S.  “The name also reminds us that a secure financial future is more than simply reaching a destination; it’s about a journey to financial empowerment, and taking control along the way in order to create positive experiences.”
