The Financial Services Institute has appointed two employees of Invest Financial Corp., based in Tampa, Fla., to its advisory councils.

John Bertino, senior vice president of operations, and Ruth Burgess, senior vice president and chief compliance officer, have been appointed to three-year terms on FSI councils. Invest is a broker-dealer with National Planning Holdings Inc.

Bertino will serve on the operations and technology council, which addresses operations-focused concerns and promotes best practices among broker-dealers. Burgess will be on the compliance council, which focuses on building a business friendly regulatory environment.

The Institute is an advocacy group that has more than 100 independent financial services firm members and 35,000 financial advisor members. It works with Finra to create a more responsible regulatory environment for independent broker-dealers and their affiliated independent financial advisors.
