The 11 staff members of McGee Wealth Management in Portland, Ore., will pick up hammers and lumber to help build 24 new homes for Habitat for Humanity later this month, the firm announced Tuesday.

McGee management and employees regularly engage in community projects and this year they will be building houses in Allen Estates in Portland on October 28. Employees are given paid time off to help with this and to participate in their own community projects, says Ashley Baldwin, McGee Wealth Management marketing director and philanthropy coordinator.

The project this year is part of Employee Team Building Day. As part of the charitable tradition of the firm, employees also receive $250 to donate to a charity of their choice.

“In following the legacy of our founder, Judith McGee, our executives have always served local organizations to enrich the communities we share with our clients and friends. We are proud to provide the support needed to extend this culture of giving throughout our entire firm,” says Baldwin.

The founder of the fee-based wealth management firm has served on numerous nonprofit boards throughout her career, including Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals for which a designation of Smithsonian Affiliation was granted during her service, The Multnomah County Library Association and Warner Pacific College.

“For generations, our families have embodied a tradition and a core belief deeply rooted in the idea of giving back. It’s why the McGee team feels strongly about supporting charitable causes within our communities. We believe that through philanthropy, we can help make life a richer experience for others,” McGee says.
