Marilyn Mohrman-Gillis has been named the first executive director of the Center for Financial Planning, which was recently created by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to increase diversity in the advisory field.

Mohrman-Gillis will lead the effort by CFP to draw more women, minorities and young people into the profession, CFP announced Wednesday. The Center for Financial Planning was launched in November to increase diversity in the profession and support academic leadership.

“Marilyn is a highly regarded leader within the financial planning community. With her experience at CFP Board and extensive background in the non-profit sector, she brings a wealth of knowledge and proven skills to this critical position,” said Kevin R. Keller, the CFP Board’s CEO.

Mohrman-Gillis will be responsible for the strategic direction of the center, developing research and program initiatives to build a sustainable financial planner workforce, the board said. She also will continue her current responsibilities as the board's managing director for Public Policy and Communications, a role she has held since July 2008, until a successor is named.

The CFP Board also named Charles Chaffin as the center’s director of Academic Home, a newly created position responsible for creating an academic journal for financial planning.
