Occidental Asset Management LLC, a registered investment advisory firm based in San Francisco, has hired two new planners to expand its behavioral financial planning efforts, Occidental announced Tuesday.

Dr. Brad Klontz and Brian Davis have joined Occidental as managing principals. Klontz has been appointed executive director of financial psychology and behavioral finance. Davis is executive director of strategy and organizational development.

The additions are part of Occidental’s growth plans, which focus on recruiting new advisors who want to utilize financial psychology to help people improve their financial lives.

Klontz co-founded the Financial Psychology Institute, is an associate professor in Financial Planning at Kansas State University, and served as a spokesperson for H&R Block.
He has authored five books including Mind Over Money: Overcoming the Money Disorders That Threaten Our Financial Health.

Before joining Occidental, Davis led Scottrade’s advisor services division, which provides institutional trading services to independent RIAs.
