The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation is considering establishing services to help participants and beneficiaries find missing IRA accounts.

In a request for information from the pension industry and the public, the agency said it is seeking feedback on the demand for a missing account holders program, the availability of private-sector missing participant services, potential program costs and fees, electronic filing and other issues.

From pension consultants, the PBGC wants to know the proportion of participants they cannot find and the average and range of account balances for orphaned IRAs.

The deadline for public comment is August 20, but regulators usually accept submissions after the formal due date.
