Lee Munson, chief investment officer at Portfolio Asset Management in Albuquerque, N.M., takes a similar approach and layers in 20% of alternative assets that include managed futures and currencies.
"We're lower in equities and higher in bonds because equities are more volatile right now," he said. The approach, he added, could be used because, once someone is investing for more than 10 years, "you better be [planning] for forever because you don't know what will happen."
