Ballentine, Finn & Company Inc., an investment and wealth advisory firm based in Waltham, Mass., has doubled its number of partners with the addition of Drew McMorrow, Gregory L. Peterson and Claudia J. Shilo. They join partners Roy Ballentine, Alice Finn and Kyle Schaffer. McMorrow joined Ballentine, Finn in 2002 and is now a senior client advisor. Peterson also joined the firm in 2002 and serves as head of economic research and investment operations. Shilo joined the firm in 2000 and serves as chief of staff for the firm's financial planning group, as well as a senior client advisor.
Northern Trust has appointed Ann Zeiler, senior vice president, and Michael J. Delaney, vice president, to its Wealth Management Group. Zeiler, with Northern Trust since 1982, most recently worked in the company's Corporate & Institutional Services division. In her new role she will cover the Northeast, expanding the company's presence in the New York and Boston area. Delaney joined Northern Trust in 1986 and most recently worked in the Wealth Strategies group serving high-net-worth clients.
Estate planning attorney Henry "Terry" Christensen III has joined the international law firm McDermott Will & Emery as a partner. The firm, which has had a private client practice in Chicago, hired Christensen to establish such a practice for the firm in New York. Christensen represents extremely wealthy individuals and is well known for his experience in international estate planning.
Robert Mallernee and Jackson Parham Jr. have joined UBS Wealth Management US as managing directors. Mallernee and Parham are responsible for running the multifamily office within the firm's private bank. The multifamily office serves family clients with more than $50 million in assets. Both Mallernee and Parham are based in Chapel Hill, N.C. Both previously were principals in U.S. Trust's Multi-Family Office Group.
Contango Capital Advisors Inc., the wealth management arm of Zions Bancorporation, has hired five new wealth managers. They include: in San Diego, Brett Allred, formerly with Centara Capital Management Group; in the San Francisco Bay area, Marie Wiseman, from Comerica Bank; in Las Vegas, Daniel Whitehead and Sam Mineo, both from Whitehead Wealth Management; and in Boise, Idaho, Kathy Maxwell, from Banc of America Investments Inc.
GenSpring Family Offices Acquires TBK Investments
GenSpring Family Offices, the wealth management subsidiary of SunTrust Banks, has acquired a Miami-based multifamily office serving wealthy families primarily in Latin America and southern Europe.
GenSpring, with $12 billion in assets and based in Palm Beach, Fla., bought TBK Investments, a multifamily office founded by Santiago Ulloa in 2000. TBK, which is changing its name to GenSpring International, serves more than 60 families and has nearly $1.5 billion in assets under advisement. Ulloa will become president of GenSpring International and will continue to lead and build GenSpring's business with international families.
"We have known for some time now that demand for objective, family-aligned advice and solutions is a growth market not just within the United States, but also on a global basis. Santiago and his team have proven that a firm can build a successful, independent family aligned business in countries outside of the United States. In fact demand for unbiased advice is as robust internationally as it is domestically, " said Maria Elena Lagomasino, GenSpring's Chief Executive Officer.
The purchase price was not disclosed.
Private Wealth Advisor Credentials
The Investment Management Consultants Association Inc. (IMCA), is offering a new designation, the Chartered Private Wealth Advisor or CPWA. The CPWA designation is being offered in partnership with University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business. IMCA also offers the Certified Investment Management Analyst, or CIMA, designation in conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and University of California at Berkeley's Haas School of Business.
