He also likes gold to protect a portion of an investor's portfolio, he said.

Romick said investors always begin to stretch for yield, which is what creates opportunities, though he doesn't believe they're currently plentiful. He likes the energy sector, oil in particular, he said, noting that demand is going to increase and oil is not as accessible as it once was.

Romick also likes farmland, but says "we can't get access farmland in the public market." For those who have the wherewithal, however, it's a "terrific place to put capital," he said.
