The world’s top race drivers have sped their way to fortunes rivaling those of successful financiers, according to a new report.

A study of retired and active Formula One drivers revealed that seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher is the richest of the group with a net worth of about $780 million, according to Wealth-X.

The research company reported that his fortune represents about 43 percent of the combined net worth of the top 10 richest Formula One drivers.

Schumacher, a German driver who last raced for Mercedes in 2012, is retired and recovering from brain injuries sustained in a skiing accident in 2013.

His wealth far surpassed the fortune of the second Formula One driver on the list, Fernando Alonso, a racer for McLaren who clocked in with a net worth of about $220 million, according to Wealth-X.

The sport’s reigning world champion, Lewis Hamilton, was in fifth place with a fortune of about $110 million, according to the report.
