Close to 600,000 replacement Independent Foreclosure Review checks ranging from several hundred dollars to over $125,000 are being sent this week to eligible homeowners who never got or lost them.

The original payments were sent to all homeowners who were in any stage of foreclosure in 2009 to 2010 from the following mortgage servicers: Aurora, Bank of America, Citibank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JPMorgan Chase, MetLife Bank, Morgan Stanley, PNC, Sovereign, SunTrust, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo.

The payments came as the result of a settlement between the companies with the Federal Reserve and the Comptroller of the Currency in January 2013 for improper foreclosures caused by robosigning and other faulty practices.

These checks must be cashed within 90 days of the issue date or they will be worthless.

Over 4.2 million of the checks were originally mailed. Homeowners who cashed them received $3.1 billion, 87 percent of the settlement.
