Jack L. Rivkin, a former CIO of Neuberger Berman,, has been named CIO of alternative investment provider Altegris, the firm announced Tuesday.

Rivkin will oversee the firm’s Research and Investments Group and will be a member of the Altegris Investment Committee. He will also have overall responsibility for identifying, selecting and monitoring fund managers across multiple investment disciplines and will oversee asset allocation and research for Altegris products.

Rivkin has held senior roles at Neuberger Berman, Citigroup Investments and PaineWebber. After Neuberger Berman was acquired by Lehman, he was promoted to director of global research of that firm's asset management unit. When bad mortgage investments drove Lehman into bankruptcy, the asset management arm proved to be one of its most valuable assets. Rivkin's managerial achievements were featured in a Harvard Business School 2006 case study, Lehman Brothers: Rise of the Equity Research Department.

Rivkin is the co-author of Risk & Reward—Venture Capital and the Making of America's Great Industries. He is currently a director of Idealab and Dale Carnegie and has served as a director of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the World Policy Institute, LEDA and multiple private companies.

“Evaluating and managing investments and investment managers has been a focus of my career for many years. Altegris's specialized approach to alternative investments, commitment to thorough research and analysis, and dedication to educating investors resonated deeply with me,” Rivkin says.
