Another robo-advisor, Personal Capital, has raised multimillions in private-equity financing to fuel its growth.

Based in San Francisco, Personal Capital announced today it raised $50 million in funding led by Corsair Capital, a private equity firm focused on financial services, and BBVA Ventures and USAA.

The announcement comes on the heels of one from Wealthfront, an automated investment management service that announced Tuesday it had raised $64 million to build its business. Charles Schwab also announced this week that it was introducing an automated investment service.

Personal Capital, while offering online investment services, says it stands apart from other robo-advisors that offer an automated basket of ETFs and no or little contact with financial professionals. Personal Capital says it combines personal finance apps with live financial advisors who work with each client to tailor a financial plan. While many robo-advisors focus on young investors who are starting out and don't yet have much money in investments, Personal Capital says its service is built for households with complex finances.

"We're leading the transformation of financial services from physical to virtual delivery," said CEO Bill Harris.  "This infusion will help accelerate our already-rapid growth -- we've seen revenue increases of 10% or more each month for the past seven quarters."

The company says its customers include more than 600,000 American families who use its apps to track more than $100 billion in assets.
