Senate Banking Committee Chair Richard Shelby said he still expects approval of Hester Peirce and Lisa Fairfax to sit on the Securities and Exchange Commission despite a committee rebellion Thursday.

Shelby was set to push the two through with a handful nominees for other agencies when one Republican member of his committee and four Democrats balked.

He postponed the vote on all when South Carolina Republican Tim Scott announced he was against Fairfax because the Democratic George Washington University law professor didn’t have any real world experience.

Scott was joined in his opposition of Fairfax by Democrats Chuck Schumer of New York, Robert Menendez of New Jersey, Oregon’s Jeff Merkley and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.

The four Democrats said they were opposed to the two SEC.
