U.S. philanthropists took eight of the top 10 spots in a list of the 10 largest single charitable donations of 2014.

Six of the donations went to educational institutions, with one university the recipient of three gifts, according to the list compiled by Wealth-X. Health causes and philanthropic foundations fill out the remaining list of beneficiaries.
