More than 2,600 U.S. companies are employee-owned, with nearly 710,000 employees having a stake, according to the National Center for Employee Ownership.

The non-profit membership organization compiled a list of U.S. companies that are at least 50 percent owned by employees under a stock ownership plan (ESOP).

The following companies are the 10 largest ESOPs in the country, ranked by total employee size (not all employees listed in the totals of six of the companies are employee-owners).
