HSH.com has determined the yearly salary needed to afford a median-priced home in 27 metro areas.

Using data from the National Association of Realtors, the publisher of mortgage and consumer loan information determined what the monthly mortgage payment -- including principal, interest, taxes and insurance -- would be to purchase a home in these cities across the U.S.

HSH.com subtracted a 20 percent down payment and used the area's average interest rate for a 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage to determine the payments.

The following 10 cities are the most affordable, with No. 1 requiring the lowest yearly salary to purchase a home.
