The financial services industry is not exactly a trailblazer when it comes to Twitter. That said, there are still some top-notch advisors and thought leaders worth checking out. Here is a list worth following:

@ReformedBroker (26,000 followers) -- Downtown Josh Brown is a New York City-based financial advisor and author of The Reformed Broker blog. He shares solid information and will make you laugh too, from time to time.

@140Limited (Less than 1,000 followers) -- Ron Rhoades, the new chair of NAPFA, lets the world know his strong feelings about all things related to the word "fiduciary."

@MichaelKitces (3,000 followers) -- Michael Kitces, a regular conference speaker and publisher of The Kitces Report and the blog Nerd's Eye View. He might be a nerd, but that is why it is worth reading his wisdom.

@StephSammons (4,000 followers) -- Stephanie Sammons helps financial advisors and professionals build online influence.

@behaviorgap (6,000 followers) -- Carl Richards communicates to investors in a simple, straightforward manner. If you are not familiar with his sketches, check them out, and you will see a true example of how a picture tells a thousand words.

@CarolynMcC (1,000 followers) -- Carolyn McClanahan combines financial planning and physician expertise to passionately share her thoughts on the 2,409 pages of the health-care reform law.

@TimMaurer (1,000 followers) -- Tim Maurer has a wonderful ability to simplify complicated financial service topics for the common investor. Links to his videos are great to click on.

@BillWinterberg (4,000 followers) -- Bill Winterberg keeps you updated on the latest and greatest. Learn how technology helps a business become more efficient and effective.

@ricedelman (2,000 followers) -- Ric Edelman has received recognition for being one of the top advisors in the United States and he shares great information. (Ric, time to start "following" others, though.)

@jamesacoxiii (14,000 followers) -- Jamie Cox shows how advisors can do a great job of sharing information and opinions. He also interacts well with others.
