Wealth management accounted for 639 million francs of pretax income, down 9.6 percent from 707 million francs a year ago. The average estimate of eight analysts was for 691 million francs in profit before tax. Net new money in wealth management totaled 200 million francs, the bank said.

Legal provisions fell to 592 million francs for the third quarter. Last year, the securities division recorded a pretax loss of 1.3 billion francs as it bore the brunt of 1.84 billion francs in legal provisions. UBS paid $545 million earlier this year to settle U.S. investigations into its role in rigging currency and interest rates.
