Sadly, the cancer returned last year, and Hyland’s doctors decided a bone marrow transplant was the only realistic treatment. Dwyer noted that cases like Hyland’s don’t “leave any dry eyes in the room.” But if there is a silver lining, it is that they have brought attention to the wide array of charitable activities advisors are pursuing and taken the IIO to the level where it is “self-sustainable,” in Dwyer’s words.
