Wells Fargo Bank and Wells Fargo Advisors LLC are among the defendants being sued for more than $60 million for misusing money from two companies based in England that was raised to fund movies, according to papers filed in state circuit court in Miami-Dade County, Fla.

Vandermolen Film Co. Ltd, and Bridgeworks Media Capital Ltd, based in England, say they invested nearly $15 million in two movie production companies, Weathervane Productions and Forrest Capital Partners Inc. The money was to be used to provide early funding for movies.

The investments were arranged through Wells Fargo Bank and Wells Fargo Advisors employees and a broker. The money was deposited in Wells Fargo Bank, says Roy K. Altman, attorney for the investors.

The investors also are suing for at least $45 million in interest payments. Wells Fargo did not return a call for comment.

The suit also names former Wells Fargo Bank employees Benjamin Rafael and Hernan Bermudez. The suit does not say what the money was used for when it was not used to fund movies.

Representatives of the investment companies met with Wells Fargo representatives on three occasions in 2014 and 2015 at which time they were assured their money was being placed in restricted accounts in Wells Fargo Bank and was to be used for movie productions, Altman says.

However, the money was moved to other accounts without the plaintiffs' knowledge and not used for investments in films, but siphoned off for other purposes, the suit says. Wells Fargo and its employees either knew or should have known that the money was not being used for its intended purposes, Altman says.
