Michael Schwaab is lead portfolio manager for the CASA Student Housing Fund, responsible for strategic planning and management of the portfolio, and is a member of the CASA senior leadership team. 

 

Prior to his current role, Schwaab was responsible for sourcing direct transactions and identifying joint venture investment opportunities for various TIAA accounts, including the initial acquisitions for the CASA Student Housing Fund. He has 26 years of real estate experience including 16 years with Henderson Global Investors North America where he ran the real estate transaction platform, prior to joining TIAA in 2014. Prior to Henderson, he was employed by Equity Residential Properties Trust for ten years. With more than $4 billion in transactions closed during his career, he has extensive experience in both single asset and portfolio transactions of direct real estate, joint venture, REIT and development deals.  He holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Notre Dame, and an M.S. in real estate appraisal and investment analysis from the University of Wisconsin. He serves on the advisory board for the National Multifamily Housing Council and is a member of the ULI Multi-Family Product Council.
